The Dutch Working Conditions Legislation
The new Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) came into force on 1 January 2007. The act includes a lot of changes in relation to the previous Working Conditions Act, which dates back to 1998. Instead of general regulations imposed from above, the new act makes provisions for tailor-made rules. Employers and employees can now consult with each other before laying down agreements to ensure a safer, healthier and more pleasant workplace. The Labour Inspectorate will trust in these agreements, but will take firmer action if the rules are abused.
